I have used it successfully. Yes, you should use the form pointer returned from the call for any subsequent form manipulations as sometimes the OS must allocate a different chunk of memory for the Form when new things are added to it.
Dynamic UI has been available for quite some time but has only really worked since 3.5 IIRC...
