Yes, that's actually what I ended up doing a couple
months ago when I ran into this issue, simply
because I couldn't be bothered to try to make the
parsing code bullet proof for what ultimate was
only a proof-of-concept/prototype style application
anyway.

I'd still argue that PalmSource should fix this 
problem.  Calling something a "numeric" field yet
not allowing half the numbers to be entered is just
weird.
