My app enforces licensing by relying on a consistent SD card serial number, as reported by the deviceUniqueIDStr string in the ExpCardInfoType returned by ExpCardInfo(). Unfortunately, we've discovered that for the SAME SD CARD, the uniqueIDStr returned is different on different Palm devices. Ugh. For the empiricists:

Panasonic 16MB SD Card
Tungsten reports: S016B_19FO54661000D1
m505 reports: S016B_19FO5466100907

SanDisk 32MB SD Card
Tungsten reports: SD032_BA205A703000D2
m505 reports: SD032_BA205A70300607

I know I'm a small fish, but I believe Franklin Covey uses a similar licensing technique with SD cards, and I'm sure they will make a lot more noise than I can ever hope to make. :) Can someone confirm that this is a bug? Does the OS source code reveal any consistencies that would allow a workaround until it is fixed? (i.e., safely ignore the last 3 digits, or maybe some hardware-dependent code to fix m68/ARM byte alignment bug etc?)

Thanks for the bandwidth,
-Jeff Ishaq
