How very dramatic.

Perhaps you want to look in the manual. Perhaps the section entitled
"Errors Generated by Make" or "Error Messages" would be of interest.

When you have done that, you will find that this error is not from make
itself, but that make is reporting an error produced by the command it
was trying to run. So you need to look at the first line.

Perhaps you could try to describe what you think you have noticed
(about that set of instructions) a little less precisely.

It is (provided you apply your brain for long enough to read the
instructions). You don't.

I answered this very question at length here on 2002-03-28. (The answer
is: you *do* have that. But...) See also my related comments of
2002-09-11. Search the archives. But if you think what you suggest
would be preferable to the general public, I invite you to do the work
to make such things available and support them. TIA!
