This is why I would advocate learning C. There is a learning curve with any language you choose to use if you are new to the Palm. I'm just suggesting that it may be beneficial to take the time to dig into C if you feel you can. Don't get me wrong. NSBasic served my purposes. It more than paid for itself in less than 3 months.
