I wrote a java app which is currently running on my 6310i and my M515, not a killing app but a kind of http downloader allowing me to retrieve the datas I need anywhere

I used both the sun J2ME wireless toolkit, and jbuilder

it works but it's very far to be as efficient as it could be using palmos native api in c
it's slower in M515 than in 6310i !
some strange choices have been made in the design of the jvm for palm, for example a Form leaves the 64 leftmost pixels free, so more than 1/3 of the screen is unusable, needed to use a TextBox which is not the best choice for a phone

IMHO it may be used if your main goal is only to make your app running on a huge number of different platforms

Joe Biron a crit:
As a mostly Java programmer, I was initially interested in writing Java apps
for the Palm, but when I dug into the Palm platform, and tried out
CodeWarrior, Java no longer seemed like such a good idea. I'm still
interested to J2ME programming, but I'm the type who likes to get down to
the basics before I start building up on top of it. The CLDC/MIDP chicanery
still seems so complicated. Much more complicated than simply grinding out
some C code in a CW project.

I'm curious about the number of developers writing J2ME apps for the Palm
platform. Is anyone out there? It sounds like everyone on this list is using
CodeWarrior. Does anyone think that J2ME for Palm is a viable paradigm right
now?
