In the meantime a beta tester reported that on his Tungsten T, the brightness slider of the Tungsten T, put to the far left, doesn't turn off the backlight as my one does. Furthermore, with the brightness slider of my application, he was able to turn brightness much farther down than possible with the actual brightness slider. Apparently the lights in the Tungsten T series differ (quite much). One some devices the actual range of brightness is smaller than the slider allows to set, on other devices it is wider. Now, I would like to add support for a calibration of the slider to my program. Is there actually a problem with this approach, e.g. might Palm had some reason to limit the brightness slider to avoid hardware failures when setting the brightness to a very low level (which actually in some cases makes the backlight flicker) or is it just limited because Palm knows that some backlights have a smaller range of brightness than others and took the middle value?
