One option is to synch them to an expansion card. The file must have a known MIME type, and the media in the slot on the PDA must know where to put that MIME type.
Another option is to build a file stream, which will look an awful lot like a raw file to your code, but which is synchable. You'll have to convert it on the desktop side first.
