I'd like to offer our sincere apologies for this comment that should have been omitted from our newsletter. This article somehow made it past our editor when it should have been deleted or at the very least rephrased. The intent of the article was originally to explain that there are *some* third-party applications that can run in the background and cause incremental battery drainage even though the user is not aware. As yo'uve noted the writer was inaccurate and offensive in his description. There's no good explanation as to how this wording regarding this issue made it to our public newsletter, however I can assure you we are already putting better cross-checking systems in place to make sure this type of thing doesn't happen in the future, and are making sure that our writers and editors fully understand the nature and negative impact of the article. We have also re-written the article which resides in the tech support section of our web site. We regret any offense this may have caused. Please let us know if you have any further questions. best regards, Allen Bush Allen Bush Director, Corporate Communications Handspring, Inc. 650.230.5029 www.handspring.com -----Original Message----- From: Mark Snell [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, February 11, 2003 1:10 AM To: DevRSVP Subject: No, I cannot attend 3GSM No, I will not be attending. One wonders whether it would be anything more than a waste of time, when you write in your e-newsletter to consumers: "The worst offenders in the battle against battery drain are third-party software applications. Not only do they use more energy than the built-in apps when the device is running, they can even suck power while the device is off. To maximize your power potential, delete any third-party software applications you don't need."
