The reason is probably that you didn't set the appropriate display mode. Take a look at the WinScreenMode function in >3.5 (in 3.5 it has another name but it will be easy for you to find it), and pass a winScreenModeSet parameter to set the desired color depth. After that, use normal WinSetForeColor and a RGBColorType parameter as usual. So don't forget to set the display mode first!
