pilrc.sourceforge.net

there is a beta/in-process version of pilrc that supports high density 
fonts there. if you could use it, and, help beta test it - that'll be
great. (for pilrc font)

have you tried setting the orientation/density of the display before
and after your WinDrawChars calls? you may be able to fool the system
into thinking it needs to draw in double density mode for a second :)
