I wouldn't have thought that this was 'inverted', actually, but that's just me.
Thanks for pointing out the obvious and helping me solve the problem.
I'm actually converting BMP files to Palm bitmaps, and I assumed that they both use the same B&W settings (0 = white, 1 = black). That's not actually the case, at least some of the time. Black and white are defined by the BMP color table, and the two entries could be in any order.
