Howdy!
I was wondering if anybody knew if Sony would ever update their PalmOS 5 devices to later versions of the OS? For example, I have one of the first Sony ARM handhelds (NX70V/U) running 5.0. I would like to upgrade to 5.3 when it is finalized. Would Sony drop their propriatary silklib in favor of the platform API? How about updating the sound API so Clie users can actually use other music players, among other benefits? An even better question would be, when OS 6 comes out, will I be able to flash my Clie to use it?
I think it is very unlikely that Sony will ever again offer OS updates for their devices. The only time this has happened so far was the update from the N710C to the N760C, and they only offered that by having you ship your device to Sony and pay $50.
It just isn't in Sony's business model to continue support for old devices -- their primary market is Japan, and Japan is a "new" driven market with a large group of constant upgraders.
