Opinions vary on this (search the archives) but I think you would be better off to generate your own unique ID and store it as a field in the records. You can store a seed in the appInfo section of the database header and reference it from the PDA or desktop.

Hi,
I am writing an app that transfers a database from Palm to PC. Because I can't use the build in functions (ExgDBWrite, etc.) my app has to reconstruct the database header. The problem is, I don't know how to get the uniqueseed value for a database.
a)Is there a way to get it? b)If not, what problems would it cause, if I set uniqueseed to zero & copy to PC, then install back to Palm? I rely on the uniqueID of records in that database.
