Sorry I have to agree with the original poster of this one. I've used a lot of IDE's for Java, C/C++ and the MAKE/ANT environments are much preferrable than the hit the GUI button to build. Yes it is much easier for the newer project resources to get going and be productive in the GUI environment but the ability to control and execute with-in a MAKE/ANT environment far surpasses anything in my mind that the GUI presents to the user.
For example with Java and JBuilder, I actually prefer using the IDE with all of it's capabilities and insight into the code for editing but when it comes to building and execution I prefer to use ANT to kick-off the compile and perform the necesssary packaging and Junit test execution. But this is just IMO...
