Is it more practical to use palm bitmap file format, with which the program should be able to display without delay? Of course, the file size will be bigger but the speed will be greatly increased.
It should be a lot faster on all OS versions. And, using compressed images, they might not be all that much larger.
Jan's suggestions about setting up a chance is a good one too if you have the memory.
