When I try to use the MenuHideItem to hide the first item of a menu on Palm OS 3.5, the system leaves a blank line at the first line! This doesn't seem to happen on later OS or on menu items other than the first one.
Is this a Palm OS bug? Is there any work around?
Yes, this is a Palm OS bug. The bug isn't documented very well, but the archives for palm-dev-forum can clear up some things.
Back in early 2001, it was reported that
1) Hiding 1st item on the menu will hang / crash the system
2) Hiding dynamically created menu item, which create by MenuAddItem(), will hang / crash the system.
This was with OS 3.5; I'm not sure if it was fixed in later OS versions. There's no good workaround, AFAIK, other than just having multiple menu resources and changing the whole menu for the form, rather than just hiding an item.
