I just reference the manual online and have it on my IE toolbar. I don't use a local copy of the manual.

This URL doesn't mention OS 5.x in the compatibility section. The second URL you provide. Seems like a doc inconsistency.
In your original post, you say that:
My app works fine up until OS4.x. and when I am porting it to OS5, I am experiencing a problem with the compression of bitmaps a user draws on the screen.
The bitmap structure changed from OS 4.X to 5.X (header and bits are not longer guaranteed to be part of the same chunk). Perhaps that's the source of your problem. What type of problem, specifically, are you encountering?
