I turned on Gremlins and also heard a funky computerised "Confirmation" sample as well. Cool! :)

You're probably running a Debug OS5 Simulator, in which standard system sounds have been replaced by samples. Think of it as an aural equivalent of the (equally jarring) purple-and-green debug Form colors.
Our multimedia team manager tells me, "the first sound ever played by the Sound Mgr was 'register me'..."
(Bonus points to anyone who knows where this sample comes from.)
