http://www.palmos.com/dev/dl/dl_tools/dl_pods/ Has anybody tried it? What are impressions?
Well I've played with it for about 2 hours since it was released and my impressions are generally positive. Here are some random thoughts:
Visual debugging, which is my main reason for using an IDE, seems to work well from within POSE(the only target environment I've tried).
The readme mentions STLPort, but I couldn't find out how to get this working. I tried including <string> and <vector>, but I get a barrage of errors.
A Managed Make project seems to hog the CPU at random, causing total freezes of the IDE that last anywhere from 30 to 60 seconds. No such issues with a Standard Make project. (Will file a more detailed bug report about this.)
I really like the XRD format and the Resource Editor.
I would've preferred PODS being based on Eclipse 3.0, but I can fully understand the decision to stick with 2.1 for now.
> Pros/Contras comparing with CW9?
Can't comment on this as I don't have CodeWarrior. I use Cygwin/PRC-Tools for development.
Overall, I think PalmSource is doing a really good job. I expect PODS to become my main PalmOS development environment once it reaches 1.0 final.
