This is my start of the journey to the Palm world. While reading some resources online I learned about development using 68K/Protein APIs, which got me confused. My target platform is to develop software for Palm OS 5.x or higher versions of Palm OS. Since they all use ARM processors, I don't see any reason to use 68K APIs. However, Protein APIs are only supported by Palm OS 6. This is what I don't understand. Does it mean even though Palm OS 5.x use ARM processors, they require using 68K APIs that runs on PACE mode on 5.x? Please help me with this issue. I guess I am having some fundamental
You are correct. The Palm OS 5 native code API is not something that's disclosed outside of our licensees; the ony supported method of using ARM code in user applications on 5.x devices it through PACE Native Objects (PNOs). See the archives of pno-forum for details on that method.
