Subject: device/OS version stats From: "andy h" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Thu, 24 Jun 2004 10:39:39 +0100
I'm trying to decide wether to support older devices and limit the features or include more features but only support newer devices.
does anyone have any stats for the number and type of Palm OS devices in use and which OS version they use? Is this info published by Palm?
A good rule is there is no need to support OS levels before 3.1.
Apart from that, it really depends what OS features you consider essential for your program and whether you need to consider work-arounds for older OS levels. For example OS 3.5 greatly increased program heap memory, had full color support, graphic buttons, and better gadget support.
Also users of older Palm OS units are less likely to be looking for new software, so you might be able to place your minimum level at 4.1, which supports pretty much all current production Palm OS devices.
