I don't think that function exists. I'd assume the control bar is always at the bottom-most portion of the display (or rightmost if in landscape mode). You should be able to tell the orientation just by the shape of the control bar area, but there's functions for that as I'm sure you know. Keep in mind you can display the control bar on a 160x160 display in which case it'd be at the bottom and not the right.
