Howdy!

I have an upcoming project which requires a clean square-wave to be generated
anywhere from 1Hz to 9 kHz. My original thought was to use the serial port
of most PalmOS devices, when to my dismay I discovered that 90% of the more
affordable PalmOS devices only had USB, not serial.

Second thought: Use an existing, or develop my own, SDIO card with a single
serial output. Can't find an existing one, and I don't have the upfront coin
to join the SD association, so that thought gets blown out a tailpipe.

Others I have talked to suggest IR-triggered generation, and other even more
fanciful ideas... but I need to generate a continious, smooth square wave, IR
or bluetooth just won't cut it.

An associate of mine has already developed a simiar system for PC serial
ports, but his solution involves massive reprogramming of interrupts, and
hardware control over serial lines.

So I have several questions:

1) Does anyone know how to interface directly with the MAX3386E
RS232-compatible serial driver in the T|T3 (or other handheld chip preferably
in a cheaper model ;) to manipulate specific pins?

2) If not, does anyone know of an existing SDIO solution similar or adaptable
to what I need?

3) Would the audio hardware of, say, the Tungsten|E, or even the Zire 21, be
of high enough quality to generate a smooth (cough) square wave?

4) Might I be able to manipulate the USB data line directly at those
frequencies?

5) Has anyone else developed their own SDIO card? And/or how much do you
charge for your services? ;)

6) Can anyone still get ahold of Visor springboard module housings? If so, I
may be able to use a PIC or programmable frequency generator for my
purposes...

7) Does a handheld exist (i.e. is still being manufactured) that has a similar
programmable interface to the Visor line? If so: links, cost, and expected
lifespan.

Thanks for the help,
        Matthew Bevan
