Thanks for the quick reply. No I was under the impression that If I declared it outside It would be global and I could let any of my functions use it.
Would that be true? I am a modest programmer and my program is working good I have gotten almost everything else together. Now all I need to do is handle the Sending and Recieveing of the data. I am going to pull 17 bytes from the serial port. "its hexidecimal data coming from my Cars Engine Control Unit" the first two bytes should be ff and 0f. ff is the marker and 0f is the number of bytes to follow. 2 bytes then 15 bytes makes 17. I was gonna find the 2 bytes first pull off 15 then every time after that pull off 17 to reduce the number of times I call the serial functions. The data coming from my car comes pretty quick so it needs to go through the cycle fairly fast. Is there another way to pull of 17bytes of data from the serial port and look though it beside creating a space like that. I thought about creating 17 diffrent variables and gathering them 1 at a time but I think that will take too long.
