My experience with a PalmOne Tung E has been good except for the buttons. The buttons are failing prior to having it one year. So you will need the extended warranty (an extra $50). It seems PalmOne has used poor quality parts for buttons. I have heard from others that have the same problem on a Tung E and some of the other PalmOne devices. I am disappointed in the quality of the Tung E. The same problem occurred with the Palm V(X).
The Tungsten E has no RS232. Tungsten T, T2, T3 and T5 (as far as I heard) have RS232 and USB.
The PalmOne Tungsten T5 and PalmOne Treo 650 devices do have RS-232 on the new PalmOne multi-connector, but there are no exposed RS-232 flow control lines, just TX, RX, and ground.
