Is DmGetResource the only method available to get at the version string (as defined in the 'tver0001' resource)? Is there a more direct API specifically for the version string?
No. This is the only way to fetch the string. It's really easy to do, but if you're doing it for a program not under your control, you should check tver 1000 first, then look at tver 1 -- Constructor and PilRC use different default ID numbers for this resource.
