I finally installed the [latest version of the] Treo 650 simulator on my fancy-shmancy Dell XPs. In short, I deeply apologize to my Tungsten T5 simulator for complaining about it. Compared to the Treo 650 simulator, it was the Cadillac, I mean Lexus, of simulators.
In short, I can't even make it work. I keeps falling asleep every 2 seconds, I never even had a chance to launch anything on it, I never even had a chance to do anything with it. I un-write-protected the storage. Didn't help a bit.
The only thing I can do, is to soft reset it. That works. Nothing else.
Since you ran the T5 simulator on your machine already, did you follow the advice in the 650 simulator's README file and delete the storage file from your C:\Palm folder. Both the T5 and 650 sims write their NVFS volume to a file in the same location, but the formats of the files are incompatible, so you have to clear this out between simulator runs.
Scott Corley posted a useful tip to help with this problem on another developer forum. Quote:

Load up SimSlotDrvr.dll in to your favorite hex editor and search for "SimSlotDriverVolume"
Patch it to whatever you like. You can also change the drive letter and the path.
I just patched my T5 sim to save to "C:\PALM\PT5SlotDriverVolume" and now it coexists peacefully with the other simulators.
Let's see... can we make it a relative path? hmmm...
Well I'll be darned...
I just patched "C:\PALM\SimSlotDriverVolume" to be ".\SoCoolSimSlotDriverVolume" and started up the sim, and it created the file right there in the same directory as the Palm Sim. So I guess now we don't have to sort out whether PalmOne or PalmSource is to blame, we can just fix it :)
Patch at your own risk - I didn't change the size of the string at all, just patched over it...
