Yes, it can, but not thru USB. USB-RS232 converters can only be used to connect a RS232 device to a USB host. So, forget about using the USB port to connect your PDA to any device other than a PC, notebook or one of the very rare device that work as USB host."Luciano A. Hello,
I have some question about Palm USB interface.
My Palm application was written for RS-232 interface for Palms with universal connector. The price of the Palm was major argument for
choosing
the Palm as an platform. Now the cheap Palms has only USB connector, so
I
need to rewrite the application to work with USB.
Question are:
1. Is there some possibility (just for now) to use some of the USB <->
RS232
hardware translators? Did anybody sucesfully used something like this?
Is it
even theoretically possible?
2. It seems, that in the apllication, I will probably just need to
change
some arguments to SrmOpen to work with USB instead of RS 232. Is it
correct?
Rudla,
Palms aren't USB host devices, so it's not possible to connect a PDA to other devices; you can only connect it to a USB host, as a computer. This was already discussed many times in the list, try to do a search in the list archives.

I understand, that the Palm can be connected only to USB host. I do not want to connect it to USB at all, i would like to connect the Palm with USB only connector (i.e. the cheap Palm) to RS232. My question is, if this is possible?
The only solution I found to this problem is to use a IrDA -> RS232 converter. But there are issues with PDAs running OMAP processors. They aren't able to send raw data thru the IrDA port, so you'll need someone who understands the IrDA protocol in the non-pda side of the 'net'. It can be the IrDA -> RS232 converter or the target device. Please check the list archives. This was already discussed a few weeks ago.
Otherwise, if you want some personal support, please contact me in private, OK? I'm working on a cheap IrDA->RS232 converter who understands the protocol.
