The ability to do digital signal processing varies depending on CPU and support hardware. I'd expect a 400MHz XScale to do fairly well with DSP work, especially in code using Intel's mulitmedia extensions.

Thank you very much 4 this answer Ben, I'll just add a quick one :
From what is now possible using the Palm Universal Connector (GPS's, etc) , I'm guessing that it is no longer a mere serial port... Am I right ?
And if so, I'm really wondering what it exactly *is*, where could I get the specs for it ? Would it be able to (somehow) route the audio I/O ?
