Hi,
Colour support was introduced with the PalmOS 3.5 and the IIIc handheld. Using
grayscale as a backgropund for a font is IMHO a very bad idea, beause the
screens of most monochrome handhelds(have you ever actually used/seen one??) do
not have the neccecary contrast strength to accomodate for this!
Two adjacent gray scales are very difficult to tell apart on a Palm V, trust
me! Just release the program without the highlighting features on grayscale
pilots...
Have fun

As i'm getting deeper into the window manager i found that WinSetForeColor/WinSetBackColor are not available on PalmOS versions prior to 3.5 My question is how to set the back and fore color on devices running PalmOS < 3.5 ? I know that on such devices only grayscale modes are supported but still, i can't find any API in the documentation.

So don't do it! While some pre-OS 3.5 devices had more than just simple monochrome, API support was virtually non-existent. But given the small market nowadays for software for pre-OS 3.5 devices, it really doesn't seem worthwhile to spend time on grayscale support on, say, Handspring Visors running OS 3.1. In addition, I can't actually think of a pre-OS 3.5 color device anyway. Roger Stringer Marietta Systems, Inc. (www.rf-tp.com)
