Thanks for the information - that clears things up.

For my application, I would like to be able to create bitmap families on the 
handheld, and potentially also have large bitmaps. It seems that I'm probably 
better off doing this on a PC -- it's not a big problem, it's just that doing 
it on the handheld would have been more elegant.

What I'm trying to do is share "skin" files for an application I'm writing, 
between the PalmOS and Windows/Linux versions of the application. Simply 
sharing a BMP or GIF file would have been nice, but it seems like creating a 
skin for the Palm is going to require an additional step to convert the BMP 
into a PDB with a bitmap family, since doing it on the Palm may not give the 
best results.
Not as elegant as I had hoped, but not the end of the world, either.
