I have looked into this although probably not in enough depth.
My application is not presently in full production. At the moment I'm just looking for ways to distribute Beta versions to our testers most of whom are not computer programmers. I am very concerned about overcomplicating the task of installation for the Beta testers at the moment. That is the main reason that I go to the trouble of making SD cards up for them.
As I understand it the PalmSource Installer can create installation packages which adapt themselves depending on the target device and whether the delivery method is OTA or not. In order to do this the Palm device has to have the PalmSource Package Installer Client already installed. Is this correct so far?
Is there a way that I could use the PalmSource Installer in part? At the moment I can safely say that there is no need for OTA delivery and I am in complete control of which PDA my users will buy, but that will not be true in the future. Is there a way that I could use the Installer in a reduced capacity to achieve what I need now - with a view to embracing the whole deal at a later date?

You might want to look at the technology in the PalmSource Installer. Installing files to SD cards in an efficient manner with only one download is part of the reason we built this tool.
