I'm using CW 8 and a macintosh, but i have access to a pc through Virtual PC if needed.

From the docs:
IMPORTANT: The Sound Manager only supports one channel of sound synthesis: You must pass NULL as the value of channel.
It does mean, that the Palm OS sound manager can only play one (the first) channel from your midi file. Try it with a monophone midi file (as it is used for older mobile phones as ringtone) and you will see what I mean.
