ROM is read-only memory. By definition you can't write to it.

I don't know much about Symbol devices, but the product specs for your
unit say that it's compatible with HandEra's ImagePro deployment
software - which is used to deploy multiple devices with the same
custom Flash RAM configuration. That leads me to think that your
handheld probably has several megs of Flash onboard, rather than ROM.

Flash is non-volitile, like ROM, and doesn't go away when you lose
power. You can't use it like RAM, however, and Palm provides no API
for dealing with it.

You might want to look into a product called JackFlash, by Brayder
Technologies. It allows you to move apps and databases between Flash
and RAM on certain devices, depending on the size of the apps and the
amount of available Flash. I've found it to be pretty reliable - but I
don't know if it'd work on your device.

You'd still have to manually back your databases up to Flash using
JackFlash if you wanted to keep the latest version available after a
reset. Getting them back into RAM, however, when you can't back
JackFlash up to Flash... I don't know how that'd work.

Maybe someone else has an idea.
