With the range of desktop-based pdb reading and writing tools available it's not that hard to save Excel data to a pdb for download to a Palm, or to build a pdb that's backed up to the desktop and imported into Excel without much fuss.
I've built a reasonable number of apps that do data collection on the Palm and data import on the desktop without any conduit involved at all. That's one less thing the maintenance developer has to learn.
