OK, thanks. We have been availing ourselves of the developer sites and 
I know that the programmer has posted to this list in the past, with 
very helpful responses. So we won't expect to get published materials 
to help with the specific T5 / 5.4 OS issues.

Is there still enough benefit overall, given that they will be 
"outdated", to buying one of the programming books? And which, if any?

I would be very surprised if any book is new enough to address the
T5 issues.
However, PalmOne.com has one or two useful documents about NVFS
and the DBCache.  Plus, there have been some informative comments
on this very list.
