OK, I see now. The Notification Manager was implemented in PalmOS 3.5, but the VFS Manager and the sysNotifyVolumeMountedEvent event broadcast were implemented in PalmOS 4.0.
I guess I've been reading too much about trap patching lately - for some reason, I had the impression that the Notification Manager was introduced in PalmOS 5.0 in order to compensate for the inability to patch traps.
