It is a major investment to create hardware for a new OS and it is now a long time since cobalt was released. I have not seen any announcements from any company that they have plans for Cobalt apart from PalmSource of course. PalmOne has a huge investment in Garnet.

In my opinion, it is unlikely that we will ever see a cobalt device selling in the market.

Well, I wouldn't call Palm press releases 'lies', but I am disappointed by the delay in OS 6. My biggest problems with the Palm right now:

* ARM development is a pain.
* I'd like to lose both 64k limits, both the number of records in a database and the maximum size of an individual record.
* I write mapping software, and my more tech-savvy customers all want 640x480 screens with hardware accelerated graphics. OpenGL ES support is very important to me.

If Palm came out with an OS 6 device with VGA resolution and OpenGL ES support, I could offer that as an alternative when my customers ask for a CE version.

The announcement last year was that PalmSource had joined that group and was working on OpenML/OpenES technology for future OS versions. PalmSource is a distinct company from palmOne and the other Palm OS licensees, and there often is a significant lag between the time that PalmSource prepares an OS release and when it is shipped on licensee devices.

I'm sorry you misinterpreted the press release. AFAIK, PalmSource is still interested in that area, but what ultimately gets released on devices running some version of Palm OS (4.x, Garnet, Cobalt, Palm OS for Linux) depends on what features the licensees want to use.
