Thanks for the advice. Sorry for the delay in acknowledging it. Update: By rolling my own,extremely normalized, database within a (Palm) database, I can get all my 500,000 records in the 16MB Palm with almost instantaneous retrieval.
I solved(?) the locking problem, by initially locking every record and keeping their handles/pointers in an array of structs. As I use 62K Palm records, this is actually a relatively small array. Using large Palm records also means uploading the data is still very fast. Clive.
