Yuen,

>having problems getting the rom id from her TE

That's because the TE, like numerous other devices, has no ROM serial ID or any
other identifier which is unique to the device.

Period.

The Hot Sync name will most likely be available, but isn't truly unique to a
device. It is also possible to find devices with no Hot Sync name present.
This occurs if the device has never been synced with Hot Sync Manager.

The two most likely scenarios for this are wireliess uses who never sync at all,
and Linux users who never run Hot Sync. Since the TE doesn't do wireless well,
you will more often than not have a Hot Sync name.

You will NOT have a ROM serial number. And the TE is hardly alone in that
regard -- many devices do not have flashable ROMs, which tends to be a
prerequisite for embedded serial numbers.
