Another update.. The author of the DB Cache Tool very kindly explained the technique he used to clear the cache as follows:
"Clearing DBCache of TungstenT5 is carrying out by broadcasting a Notification (SysNotifyBroadcastDeferred) HotSync Start/Finish (sysNotifySyncStartEvent and sysNotifySyncFinishEvent)." This is very useful, and I can confirm it works on a T5. However, it can take a long time, and isn't the cleanest method to clear cache (but is better than SysReset() ;-)). Why do we need to trick a device into hotsyncing to clear the cache, couldn't PalmOne of made an API to purge the cache? Also, I have no idea whether this works on other NVFS devices? Anyway, thought I would let you know the latest, if anyone can find a cleaner method of clearing the cache please let me know?
