Try asking Oscar, the maker of fine extended keyboard skins at velo.hopto.org.
Basically, you need to add buttons to the 'aslk' and other resources in the
StatusBarResources database. As far as I know the stuff is nowhere documented,
but there are skinning programs. Search the "skins" forum at 1src.com. To load
in a new DIA skin, you need to make a RAM shadow copy of the database with
whatever changes you want. There are some tricks, though. There is a bug in
the T3/T5/LD operating system which results in crashes when there is a DIA skin
in RAM rather than ROM after the clock popup has been popped up 8 times. My
SkinDIA! DIA skin loader (www.zlthemes.com/Programs.php) gets around this by
removing the RAM icons from the skin or by a more complicated procedure that
lets these stay.

I also suggest you look at my SkinDIA! and the various links in its readme.html
file.
