That's a good point. It doesn't really matter if it in the center of the
screen or on the bottom, so there's no reason for me to not follow the palm
standards.
Actually there is a good reason to have it aligned with the bottom of
the screen.
It covers up the buttons on the screen so the user doesn't think the
buttons are still active.
Note: What I do sometimes when I have a short, but potentially
noticeable, delay is to hide the buttons and place a "Please wait..."
message across the bottom of the screen.
