Not that I've seen. The only 8-bit-only devices were the IIIc, the CLIE
PEG-500C, and the CLIE PEG-710C (which was 16-bit after being updated to OS
4.1). There have been some devices with 12-bit screens, but the memory was
organized using 16-bit values.
Some OS 5 devices may run in 8-bit mode by default for speed, but they all
can go into 16-bit color.
