Yes, there have been many rumors. The most recent big news regarding PalmOS is the sale of PalmSource (the PalmOS developer) to Access, a Japanese company which makes browsers for mobile devices. From 10 Sept 2005,

Prior to that, way back in Oct 2002, was the news that PalmOS 6 was to be based upon BeOS, http://birdhouse.org/blog/archives/2002/10/palmos_6_to_be.php I'm getting the impression that Palm has thrown in the towel on software development, and given in to the dark side? Sheesh, that's a bummer, I was really hoping for a *nixy replacement for the PalmOS of yore. Does this mean Palm is abandoning PalmOS, for Windows?? That would be the ultimate irony, if true. If any of my dark speculation is true, one would hope there'll be an emulator on new devices, so we can continue offering existing apps for the new devices.
