I have created a record using 0 for numbers and "" for text, except for the name, which I fill with "N" for new, within the record. This works, but there has to be a better way. I don't like the idea of forcing any data on a person using the application (which in turn will force them to clear anything I fill in before they enter their data on a pen device, where most of the data will have to be entered). I also don't like the fact that I have to reload the form to get this data to display in every field as it should. (The blink of the form reload event makes the software look a little "clunky".) I suspect the "" is getting in the way of the field update routine that sends text to the various fields. The form reload seems to take care of this.
