1. Check for updates for CodeWarrior. If you have a slow, dial-up
connection, the download of the update could take hours, so consider making
a friend with a high speed connection, or find a local internet cafe (or a
copy/print store with computers that can be rented by the hour) that allows
you to burn CD-ROMs on their computers or that permits a USB port drive to
be used. (Public libraries may have high speed connections, but tend to
frown upon burning CDs or loading files onto USB port drives. They also can
place strict time limits on use.) You can always use your own computer and
internet connection first to confirm the size of the update for your version
of CodeWarrior and the size of the emulator file before you make any other
arrangements relative to your modem speed needs for final download.

2. Palm has an emulator download that is fairly simple to set-up to run
with CodeWarrior. If you are just getting started, I suspect that it will
be the preferred approach. It is very nice to be able to use the emulator
with it set for a fresh start (no unwanted/old application created files in
memory) each time, if you are debugging. It can also be time consuming to
download, so you may wish to time any trip to a high speed internet site in
a manner that permits you to download both the Palm emulator files and the
CodeWarrior updates at once.

3. The Palm OS Developer Kit is presented as the future for Palm
development, given CW's end of life cycle situation. You might want to give
that some thought before you commit yourself to CodeWarrior. PODS should be
happy under XP. (It's the thought that counts, right?)

4. Read a little bit about conduits under Palm OS and consider this in
light of your potential needs before you invest a lot of time in development
for Palm OS, if the additional requirements relative to conduit development
for Windows AFTER the Palm OS program is written could necessitate an
investment of your time in excess of what you regard as realistic, or
require additional software and setup expertise in which you may not wish to
invest your time and money.

Hope this helps.

Subject: Old Codewarrior

It seems to need a serial connection to my Palm Tungsten/E to check the
code. I have a USB cable, but the IDE only gives me a choice of COM 1-4.
Any suggestions? My desktop is Windows XP.

and then hotsync it to the Palm and just run it there?
