Hi Régis,

I understand the DbCache problematics very well - that's not the problem.

TomTom is not our SW, I would like to understand what is behind its
problems. However, there is an indirect relation to Resco Backup (and as far
I could see on various user forums) to the other backup solutions as well:
After RBackup is run, TomTom fails to start with given error message.

The problem concerns T650 only and I found following:
- There are no locked databases except HsTraceDatabase...
- There are no open DBs except the few standard system databases (PIMs
a.s.o.) - the same DBs as after a reset.
Despite that this error.

DbCache is low, but it should play no role as this fact alone has no
meaning.

I suspect the fragmentation of the DBCache, but the fragmentation can be
caused only by locked DB records, maybe also by the opened DBs - that's what
I do not quite understand. If I knew what causes the fragmentation, then
maybe I could measure it and find the answer.

If I use Resco Explorer, then I can see locks up to the DB record level,
open or protected databases - nothing yields any answer.

Well, there is still another possibility and I am quite inclined to believe
it: TT tries some undocumented access to DbCache and fails without a proper
reason.

Who displays this error message?
Would TT refer to itself as "this application"?
On the other hand, OS just tries to launch a small (appr. 60K) application
and I cannot imagine such a failure in this case.

Best regards,
    Jan

Hello Jan,

DBCache is a ram area that is used on Palms that have NVFS file system
(no volatile file system).

Actually PDBs are loaded on DBCache (that is ram memory), and flushed to
flash memory some times.

The write to flash memory occurs when You close the PDB, call the DmSync
or the Palm sleep.

I think that You have too many data and DBCache is too small to fit all
the data on the DBCache. Try to maintain fewers PBDs open.

This problem only occurs with Palms that have NVFS (like Tungsten E2 or
Z22).

Hello,

anybody knows what could this error message mean?

Lots of users are complaining mostly in respect to TomTom, but I saw also a
problem with Blazer.

I would like to know e.g. who is issuing this message.

I can add my speculations, but they are nothing more but that -
speculations.

With best regards,
