Hi,
can somebody confirm that Symbol's SPT 1800 (and probably also the 1550)
have 1 meg dynamic heap if PalmOS 4.1.x is installed (compared to 256k
if they come with 3.5.2)?
I do remember that 2 or 3 years ago, I ran into trouble with my app bc I
burned too much heap (I work with MobilVB so that's not too unusual ;)
in an app for SPT 1800. After 1 or 2 days cleaning up (and still having
'out of memory' depending on situation), I updated the device to 4.1.x
and the problem was gone. Also my debugging output showed a heap > 700k
compared to < 100k before the update.
One might argue that the problem was in Appforge showing the available
heap, but since the errors were also gone, I have good reason to believe
that Symbol changed something in the PalmOS to allow 1 meg of available
heap.
Can anybody confirm this, or prove that I'm wrong (by trying on a SPT
with 4.1.x for example)?
I already contacted Symbol tech support, but their 'techie' did not even
know what dynamical heap is ...
